Warren S. Teitelbaum
Co-founder
Warren S. Teitelbaum is co-founder of The Maven Group. In 1978, with a loan of $5,000, Warren co-founded, and as CEO, directed the rapid growth of Mattress Discounters (MD). It grew to 275 locations in 14 markets nationwide, leading it to become the nation's largest mattress retailer. In 1997, he sold Mattress Discounters to a publicly held company for an undisclosed amount. At the time of its sale, Mattress Discounters was the largest mattress chain in the United States. Warren was a home furnishings pioneer, integrating every aspect of the business, from advertising to delivery to manufacturing, to private label branding.
Prior to selling MD, not only was he in the mattress business, “Wally” also ventured into the carpet and furniture business, but soon became interested in commercial/residential real estate. He began to apply his business integration expertise that he acquired from the retail sales of Mattress Discounters to the acquisition of operating real estate. After selling Mattress Discounters, Wally directed his efforts towards the creation of retailer friendly shopping center schemes that optimize the retailer's street presence and optimize the consumer shopping experience. With the revival of mixed use residential and retail buildings in Washington's urban core, Wally has focused his efforts on expanding the synergies and complementary elements of mixed-use buildings.
Wally is a US Army Vietnam combat veteran. He was honorably discharged in 1969. He attended Finance School in Indiana. Aside from being a well-accomplished businessman, Wally also strives to be a philanthropist and over the years has supported Big Brothers, JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Foundation), Muscular Dystrophy Assoc. and Wounded Warriors. He is a married father and grandfather.
